The Town Hall

For one incredible day at Frome Town Hall in Autumn 2024, kids were in charge.
Frome’s Mayor signed a document to officially hand over power of the town to young people, which was announced by the Town Crier. All adults had to sign a document on entry promising to obey any rules applied by children.
Walls and ceilings were covered in paint, a forest was dragged inside a meeting room through the windows (with tools provided by Super Roots), and an Escape Room was created inside an old Victorian Safe. Young people could also make their own original music in a disco room set-up by Simon Panrucker, and lay out a set of new rules for the town - which were subsequently presented to the Council.
The day had moments of wonderful silliness, such as when all the 100+ adults were instructed to shout ‘bum’ out the windows at the top of their lungs. But there many moments when young people showed their wisdom, offering new rules including mandatory mental health support in local businesses and town-wide weekly celebrations of nature.
“Wild and wonderful. The kids ran the show and I am proud of my local Council for inviting that level of chaos in an official building!”
“Fantastic, wild, creative, completely different to most kid events”
