Campfire Club:
Animation & Exploration
Artist: Temujen Gunawardena

(Young People / Super Roots)
Every Friday afternoon, Super Roots host Campfire Club: an after-school gathering for young people in the Mount area of Frome. They play, build things using tools, and cook on the fire. It’s an open-access group: anyone can turn up and join in. Super Roots are brilliant at supporting wildness and adventure.
Across the school year 2024-25, Terrestrial artist Temujen Gunawardena joined Campfire Club, providing the group with resources and ideas to make their own artwork. So between fire-lighting and building, the young people explored ink-making and charcoal painting, sculpting and stop-motion animation.
At the end of the year we created an exhibition of the young people’s artwork in the gardening hut. Their animated films were projected onto every surface, surrounded by paintings, sculptures and photos.
